Hi, I’m Matt, the new Minister. I’ve been in ministry for just over 4 years now, with North Rockhampton being my first placement. Before my theological training I worked in various Queensland Government Departments in administrative roles. I’m married to Andrea, a former high school business teacher who was until recently lecturing in the STEPS Program at Central Queensland University. We have a 3-year-old daughter, Emma, and we’re pregnant with another due in June, but we’ll have to wait for their birth before we know any more about them. Andrea and I both grew up in Brisbane, which is where our families still are.
We have both come from varied church-going backgrounds before the Uniting Church. For myself, I grew up in the Baptist Church while attending a Lutheran high school, before then attending a Wesleyan Methodist Church, and undertook study through the Brethren and Anglican Churches, before coming to the Uniting Church with my Theology Degree coming from the Australian Catholic University. Andrea grew up in the Anglican Church, taught in a Lutheran high school and attended Lutheran and Baptist Churches before meeting Matt and moving to the Uniting Church. In our spare time, we enjoy travelling, reading, gardening and movies, and we have lately been interested in dreaming up ideas to one day build our own home.
